Iilaakso Oy: Low carbon solutions for household consumption

Iilaakso helps Pyhäjärvi and Tyrnävä to promote the introduction of low-carbon solutions for consumers in living, eating, waste management, services and goods, through their own experience.

Iilaakso has contributed to the significant efforts of the municipality of Ii to reduce CO2 emissions. Work has been done with the municipality as well as with the inhabitants. The project utilizes the results of the ongoing Sitra-funded consumer project, which can be replicated and utilized in other municipalities.

Help from the HINKU-network

The HINKU municipalities (Ii, Tyrnävä and Pyhäjärvi) in Northern Ostrobothnia spread these practices in a smart way in their own area by taking local considerations into account.

In this project, sustainable everyday experiments will be directed, for example, to increasing the use of renewable energy and improving the energy efficiency of homes.

In 2021 municipalities hired a shared project worker to link the municipalities and residents together. The project coordinator will also bring actions already done in Ii to the other municipalities, while keeping the unique conditions of each municipality in mind. The ideas of each municipality are shared openly in order to spread knowledge about the success of different methods. The role of Iilaakso is to encourage and tell about their own experiences, but the municipalities can implement their ideas independently.
