The six-year Towards Carbon Neutral Municipalities and Regions (Canemure) project significantly advanced regional climate work and brought together experts from municipalities and regions, research institutions, and companies to develop solutions to mitigate climate change through concrete means. The key results of the project have now been compiled into a layman’s report.

Plugit Finland and Ahola Transport are leading the way in the electrification of heavy vehicle transport. Ahola Transport has invested in a new public high-power charging station for heavy vehicles, which opened in Naantali, Finland, in September 2024. At the same time, the company began operating a fully electric truck in cross-border transport.

Particularly in the chemicals, metals, forestry, and electronics industries, Finnish companies produce and export goods with significantly lower carbon footprints than the global average. Lack of standardized methods results in uncertainties in the assessments. Thus, further methodological development is needed.

On 16 May 2024, the Finnish Environment Institute published a press release on climate emissions from municipalities. Due to an error in the calculation, this press release is being published as a corrected version and thus replaces the previous one.
