Information solutions

GTK's mineral deposits database covers a wide range of information on Finnish mineral deposits and primary raw materials as well as mining data. Currently, the database lacks the capability to enter information related to mining waste. This gap is addressed as part of the REPower-CEST project. At the same time, distribution channels are developed to provide access to Finland's extractive waste data.

The design of the data model takes into account the EU-wide m4eu database and the data collection needs set by it. The CRMA Article 27 guidelines and the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) are also considered in the design work of the data model, so that GTK can meet all data collection and distribution needs.

The METSO user interface of the mineral deposits database will be renewed so that the new mining waste section can be added as part of the user interface. The reform involves the migration of the entire mineral deposit database from Oracle to the Postgres environment.

The collected mining waste data is transferred into information products and these are distributed in GTK's Mineral Deposits and Exploration (MDaE) map service, as well as in the EU-wide m4EU database in the EDGI portal.
